Who taught me drip

Being from New York City was like being born into a fashion show, variety amount of stores and fashion styles. In New York City fashion is a big thing to everybody because we produce a lot of styles that the rest of the country looks up too. Most famous people from New York became big names in the fashion industry such as Cam’ron, Fabulous, Jay Z, Asap Rocky, etc.

Since I was in high school I went through a lot of different phases on the way I dressed.  The way I dressed helped me express myself because it made me feel good about myself of being a fly person.I came in second place as best dressed my senior year in high school, I lost to someone that wore Hollister and Sperry’s.

I get my style from my mother and brother when I was younger they picked out my clothes when I went shopping and went to school. My brother Kris who is 7 years older than me was always fashionably dressed.

IMG-7851One time when I was in high school my brother came to visit us in North Carolina and he had a whole suitcase for me with with clothes, shoes, belts, and hats. He looked at me and said ‘You know I got to get my little bro right I can’t have him walking around looking like he’s straight out of North Carolina.” In the suitcase there was a lot of designer clothes such as a collection of True Religion Jeans and shirts, Gucci, Fendi, Ferragamo, and versace belts.

IMG-7839 (1)When I got to college I started learning a little more about my style and what made me feel comfortable in. It was a habit for me not to go out dressed like anything because I cared about first impression appearance.

IMG-7840I started out just by putting together stuff like I will have a fly pair of shoes and just randomly put stuff together with it. The stores I like shopping at are PacSun, Zumiez, Forever 21, Fashion Nova, footaction, Champs, and footlocker.

IMG-7850Since I’ve been at Shaw I was known for just being myself and dressing how I wanted to or what I think looked good together. I started getting compliments on the way I dress from multiple people telling me how they like because I dress different from everybody else. I found my style with the mixture of a street New York look mixed with a little bit of rock star because I like wearing skinny jeans and leather jackets.

Gunna how he drip

From the drip god himself, Gunna talks a little about his fashion from then to now. Gunna breaks down how he puts together on what he is going to wear today.

Gunna is one of my favorite rappers and I picked up the word “Dripping” from him and my other favorite rapper Young Thug. They have both gave me an inspiration on the new-aged rap rockstar.

In a Interview on DTLR Villa Stlye Suite, Gunna was asked where do he get his style from he told them that both of his parents were fly so he kinda inherit it.

Gunna talks about his early fashion where he was younger and talks about having a shoe fetish. He said he can drip anything like wearing Walmart t-shirts with his shoes.

Gunna mention he used to shop at cheap little stores like Urban Outfitter and putting together cool little outfits.

Gunna talks more detail about his shoe fetish where he mention he has over one hundred thousand shoes. Gunna list his other favorites like Dolce Gabbana, Gucci, Diors, Off-Whites, Balmains, Balenciaga and Prada’s.

In the interview, they mention that DTLR is “Your fashion, your lifestyle” and asked Gunna if he was to step into a DTLR store what will be the first thing to capture his attention. Gunna said that he would go look at the Air Force one’s that’s his day to day shoe and also mention the collection he has of them.

Gunna was asked how do he gets dressed on a day-to-day basis, and tells them “it depends on what I want to wear, I can think like I want to wear this jacket today then put something together with it or I want to wear these shoes and put on a clean fit and I’m chilling”.

The interview transition into on his style of music and what influenced him. Gunna talks about rappers who influenced him like Lil Boosie, Future, Young Thug, and Nipsey Hussle.

Gunna talks about about getting his flow from vibes and positive energy like they can come from the mall or just having a good day living life.

As they finishing up they ask Gunna on who he looks forward to collabing with in the future, he mentions artist like the previous he named who influenced him along with Chris Brown, and female artist.

That’s it from the drip god himself!

Do you have the patience for online shopping?

Online shopping. One of the most convenient thing of the internet where you can shop from home and standing in lines. All you need is your debit card, wait a couple of business days and your package will be delivered to your address.

92% Americans does a lot of online shopping, according to npr.com

I did a poll on twitter to see what would people opinion be on online shopping against going to the mall.  65% out of 17 people choose shopping online.

View the poll here

Have you ever walked into one of your favorite stores to shop at and nothing caught your eye or they don’t have anymore in your size? Now you have to drive to another store to see what they have in there to see what you like. Another waste of time and gas…

Online shopping you have the opportunity to visit any stores website at any time. All you need is your debit card and a valid address for delivery.

A lot of people does a lot of online shopping today because of the conviency of not having to drive around and leave your house. Shopping online you have a lot of different stores you can shop from. Also there’s a better variety of clothes online than in the actual store. When shopping online you won’t have to worry too much about a person copying your style because they haven’t seen it in the store. Online shopping can also be cheaper, especially when you have an account with the store they’ll send you discount codes for you to use in your email.

In this blog I am going to weigh out the pros and con of online shopping.

PRO: Shopping from home at multiple stores.

From clothes to shoes, different styles and colorways. You might see them in the store but fashion nova has a similar pair and it’s cheaper. Especially not having to get out of bed and just to stand in a line to get those new shoes that came out this morning . Online shopping just might be for you.

CON: possibility of shipment being delayed and chances of getting the wrong size

One time I had ordered some pants from fashion nova and they got delayed for like a good two months until I was able to get them. Now when I got them they fit too big on me , I just took them to plato’s Closet and got like seven out of the sixty dollars I paid for it. Those two are the biggest risk because your package can be lost in the mail or stolen before it gets to your house. You’re also not able to try them on before you get them, some store their clothes either run bigger or smaller than most stores you’ll shop from.

When you shop online you won’t have to worry about shopping all from the same store because others are not around. Also you don’t have to worry too much about everybody having those same thing you got on or anybody twinging your whole outfit. If somebody ask where’d you get your shoes from you can tell them you got it from some other store that’s in a different state.

A list of my favorite online stores to shop at are Fashion Nova, Forever 21, Pacsun, Zumiez, NBA store, Big Baller Brand, Flight club, and stock x. I literally shop from all of these stores then put an outfit together.

Hip Hop Fashion Evolution

From bucket hats and Adidas track suit all the way to the hip hop rock star era. Hip Hop fashion has evolved over the years since the first sound emerged from NYC’s neighborhood in the middle of 1970’s styles have spreaded from city to city, coast to coast, and scene to scene. Fashion made hip hop music stand out throughout the years.

The first hip hop fashion style was worn by rappers, DJ’s, break dancers and graffiti artist. The early 80’s b-boy look which had also emerged throughout the east coast had wore bucket hats, Adidas tracksuit with the Adidas shell toes, gold chains, name-plate necklaces, etc.  Major sportswear companies such as Le Coq Sportif, Adidas and other old school brands ruled the street fashion. Hip hop groups and artist such as Run-D.M.C, The Fat Boys, Ultra-magnetic MCs, Schoolly D, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane and many more rocked this look.

After a few twist and turns throughout the hip hop fashion gangster rap style adopted the black pride look inspired by Latin American gang culture of De La Soul. Towards the end of the 80’s era hip hop acts such as Public Enemy, Erfic B and Rakim, Brand Nubian, Main Source, Queen Latifah, KRS-One, and Salt-N-Pepa started embracing the African heritage look known as the Black Panther look.Black nationalist colors like black, red, yellow, and green and jewelry was a part of the black nationalist hip hop style.

The ghetto fabulous look known as the old-school gangster look has been introduced in the early 2000’s it was more of a classier look in the hip hop era. That style suggested extreme wealth look with wearing extravagant attire. Rappers such as Diddy, Snoop Dog, Notorious BIG, and 2-Pac adopted this look by reflecting to old school gangsters like Al Capone with the fedoras, bowler hats, double-breasted suits and alligator skin shoes.

The mid 2000’s look was the baggy eras wear rappers wore tall white tees, fat daddies (baggy pants), jerseys, work boots, puffer jackets, and Tommy Hilfiger. Stars such as Wu-Tang, Missy Elliot, Nelly, Ludacris, Lil Kim, and even Soulja Boy pulled off this era and made it look cool.

The hip hop rock star era came into style around 2014 where rappers such as Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and Migos all made it trendy. With the skinny jeans and leather jacket gave them a little more of a punk rock look. This style tends to have a mix of expensive designer clothes such as Balmain Jeans, Chanel shoes, Balenciagas, and ect.

Another style of fashion that is apart of this era is more of a homeless hippie look with the ripped long T-shirts, and dull colors such as olive green, brown, and orange. Kanye West made it a trend for people who looks up to him it goes apart of Yeezy boosts.

My favorite style is the hip hop rock star look I like to mimic it a little bit as apart of my own style by switching it up a little bit with a street look. To me I tend to have my own style because I don’t try to dress like anyone else but myself.

Dripoduction!

Being from NYC I seen all these types of different styles from all kinds of people. In today’s society fashion became a big thing to most people such as celebrities, athletes, rappers, etc. When you think of fashion you think of designer brands and runway models. Well to me fashion is not all about who is dressed up in the best designer clothes. Most people are not fortunate to have all those nice expensive brands.

I always looked up to my older brother who is 7 years older than me, he always been a cool person to be around and tried to be the best role model to me. Even though me and him took opposite paths in life I still always looked up to him because he always done a lot for me. One day my brother had came down to NC to visit us from NY when i was in the 9th grade, and he brought me a suitcase of his clothes he doesn’t want anymore. I opened the suitcase he had all these different type of designer clothes in there and he looked at me and told me and said “My son about to be flee.” The whole week while he was there he helped me put my outfits together for school. I remember going to school everyday of that whole week and people asking me where I get all these True Religion from and I got mad compliments on my outfit. Ever since then I just took off with it and developed my own unique styles.

The word “Drip” I got from 2 of my favorite rappers from Atlanta, Young Thug and Gunna who use that word frequently in songs referring to their fashion.

I went through a faze where I wore all these designer brands my brother used too hook me up with every time I go visit NY or when he come down here. One day I was in a conversation with a group of people and a girl had mentioned just because somebody has designer clothes that doesn’t mean you know how to dress it’s how you put things together. Ever since that day I just started shopping in local stores where everybody else shop at and just put my clothes together different. Ever since then I won best dressed my senior year of high school and have multiple people give compliments on the way I dress.
